Twenty Chicks

So here goes, my first ever attempt at blogging. I've become a little addicted to reading other people's blogs and thought I'd give it a go myself.

Well so far it's taken lots of my time trying to think of a witty name, after racking my brain, searching the internet for ideas and almost giving up on the whole thing, I ended up looking around the room for inspiration and next to my crochet hook and bundles of wool was half a cup of coffee and quite a few chocolate wrappers and I thought this pretty much describes how I spend most of my evenings... my friends will argue that I should put as much effort into finding myself a fella as I do into my crochet... maybe that day will come very soon.

Well it's the Easter holidays, woo hoo, so far I have been very productive and crocheted twenty little chicks, I'm very proud of myself, having created the pattern all by myself, simple as it looks, I have to own up to it taking me quite some time. Each chick is covering a chocolate egg and has been wrapped up, ready to be sold at my dad's work.

I crocheted my chicks using a 3mm hook and dk wool, the pattern is as follows (sc -single crochet, dc - double crochet):
The Body
Round 1: In a magic circle crochet 6sc*
Round 2: *Sc, inc* around (9sts)
Round 3: *2sc, inc* around (12sts)
Round 4: *3sc, inc* around (15sts)
Round 5: *4sc, inc* around (18sts)
Round 6: *2sc, inc* around (24sts)
Round 7: *7sc, inc* around (27sts)
Round 8: sc around (27sts)
Round 9: *8sc, inc* around (30sts)
Rounds 10-13: sc around (30sts)
Round 14: *3sc, dec* around (24sts)
Round 15: *6sc, dec* around (21sts)
Rounds 16-18: sc around (21sts) fasten off
The wings (make 2)
Round 1: 6sc in a magic circle
Round 2: inc around (12sts)
Round 3: sc, hdc and dc in next stitch, 2dc in next stitch, dc, fasten off.
Attach the wings to the body using wool, one wing will need to be attached with wrong side facing out. I used orange felt for the beak and small black beads and thread for the eyes. I also attached a few strands of wool at the back for some tail feathers.
This is the first pattern I've written so if you find any faults please let me know. Happy Crocheting and Happy Easter!

Oh and all of my hard work will be rewarded with a couple of nights away in a  teeny tiny cottage on the shores of Lake Windermere next week :-)
